How to make strawberry chia jam

  • Strawberries: We all know how much we love strawberries, but have you ever thought how much strawberries love us?
    • They love us so much that they give us tons of vitamins C and K, folate, potassium, manganese, and magnesium.
    • And the love doesn’t stop there! They also give us a hefty amount of fiber, and antioxidants.
    • Also, they’re naturally low in calories and promote good heart health.
  • Chia Seeds: These itty, bitty, little seeds are a powerhouse on multiple levels.
  • Orange Zest and Juice: You really want to go for the good stuff here.
    • Don’t skip the zest, and grab the freshest orange you can find for the juice. Ignore the carton, and go for the actual gold.
    • You’ll be happy you did.

Recipe Substitutions and Alternatives

  • Berries: I made this jam because the strawberries in our garden were keeping us on our toes and we needed a delicious way to make a dent in our bountiful harvest.
    • But, this recipe would work equally well with raspberries, blueberries, or even blackberries! Let the bounty pick the berry.
  • Orange: I love, love, love, the combination of strawberries with oranges.
    • But lemon zest and juice would be amazing too!
    • Also, depending on the sweetness of the berry, you could even use a little pink grapefruit zest and juice for a bit of puckery goodness!
  • Sugar: In the recipe I suggested granulated sugar, honey, or maple syrup.
    • But, you could also use a little bit of agave, but remember it’s a very sweet sweetener, so use a little bit less than the 3-4 tablespoons.
    • Also, remember when you’re using maple syrup, make sure to get the pure maple syrup.

Are chia seeds nutritious?

  • Chia seeds are loaded with fiber, protein, good fat, calcium, manganese, magnesium, and phosphorus.
  • So, when you’re making your favorite breakfast, dessert, or snack, don’t feel shy about throwing in a bit of chia seeds for health and added body to your meals.
