How to make strawberry chia jam

Featured Ingredients

  • Strawberries: We all know how much we love strawberries, but have you ever thought how much strawberries love us?
    • They love us so much that they give us tons of vitamins C and K, folate, potassium, manganese, and magnesium.
    • And the love doesn’t stop there! They also give us a hefty amount of fiber, and antioxidants.
    • Also, they’re naturally low in calories and promote good heart health.
  • Chia Seeds: These itty, bitty, little seeds are a powerhouse on multiple levels.
    • In recipes, they’re perfect for liquid absorption because the surface of their outer coating is very delicate and opens right up when their paired with liquids.
    • That makes them a wonderful natural thickener for things like our Chocolate Overnight Oat & Raspberry Chia Pudding Parfaits or our crazy delicious Oat Coconut Walnut Bars or our bright and beautiful Mango Vanilla Chia Seed Parfaits!
  • Orange Zest and Juice: You really want to go for the good stuff here.
    • Don’t skip the zest, and grab the freshest orange you can find for the juice. Ignore the carton, and go for the actual gold.
    • You’ll be happy you did.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Place strawberries, orange zest, orange juice and sugar in a medium saucepan.
  2. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook 7-8 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and whisk in chia seeds.
  4. Place jam in a pint-sized jar and seal with a lid. Refrigerate overnight.

Recipe Substitutions and Alternatives

  • Berries: I made this jam because the strawberries in our garden were keeping us on our toes and we needed a delicious way to make a dent in our bountiful harvest.
    • But, this recipe would work equally well with raspberries, blueberries, or even blackberries! Let the bounty pick the berry.
  • Orange: I love, love, love, the combination of strawberries with oranges.
    • But lemon zest and juice would be amazing too!
    • Also, depending on the sweetness of the berry, you could even use a little pink grapefruit zest and juice for a bit of puckery goodness!
  • Sugar: In the recipe I suggested granulated sugar, honey, or maple syrup.
    • But, you could also use a little bit of agave, but remember it’s a very sweet sweetener, so use a little bit less than the 3-4 tablespoons.
    • Also, remember when you’re using maple syrup, make sure to get the pure maple syrup.

Are chia seeds nutritious?

  • Chia seeds are loaded with fiber, protein, good fat, calcium, manganese, magnesium, and phosphorus.
  • So, when you’re making your favorite breakfast, dessert, or snack, don’t feel shy about throwing in a bit of chia seeds for health and added body to your meals.

Just a small remark (and please delete my comment if disturbing): As I opened your page with the mobile I had a terrible add which I could not close. Opening again on my laptop everything looks ok. You might have a look to your mobile version of the page. xoxo from Germany
