How to make Guinness pork sliders
Featured Ingredients
For the Guinness BBQ sauce:
- Guinness stout: These are Guinness sliders, after all.
- Ketchup: One of the base ingredients that adds texture, acidity, tanginess, and body.
- Molasses: For sweetness and that classic molasses flavor.
- Brown sugar: Because brown sugar in BBQ sauce is AMAZING.
- Apple cider vinegar: For acidity with that apple cider flavor.
- Citrus juice: Adds a brightness to the sauce.
- Onion and garlic powder: Flavor, flavor, flavor.
- Hot sauce: For a little heat.
For the pork sliders:
- Ground pork: I love the flavor of pork, and making a burger out of ground pork is no exception.
- Dijon mustard: Added to the ground pork, Dijon just adds even more flavor (I add it to meatballs and meatloaf, too).
- Guinness stout: For more Guinness-ness.
- Muenster cheese: For that ooey gooey meltiness on top.
- Slider buns: To bring it together as the perfect slider!
Step-by-Step Instructions
To make the BBQ sauce:
- Whisk together BBQ sauce ingredients in a medium saucepan set on high heat.
- When it begins to boil, reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 20-22 minutes, until sauce has thickened, stirring occasionally.
- Taste and adjust the seasonings, as necessary.
To make the burgers:
- In a medium bowl, combine the ground pork, mustard, stout, garlic, salt and pepper.
- Work the mixture with your hands until all of the ingredients are incorporated. Form 6 small patties.
- Heat a cast iron skillet, grill or sauté pan to medium-high heat.
- Coat the cooking surface with cooking spray.
- Once it's hot, add the pork patties and cook on each side about 4-5 minutes, until a brown crust is formed and the internal temperature of the burger reaches 145 degrees.
- When the burgers are almost done on the second side, add the cheese slices to each burger.
- Remove patties and toast the buns for 30-60 seconds each in the hot pan.
- Build the burgers with desired toppings and BBQ sauce.
Recipe Substitutions and Alterations
- Instead of making your own BBQ sauce: Pick your favorite premade BBQ sauce to slather on these sliders.
- For the ground pork: Try with ground beef, chicken or turkey.
- For the buns: I used a pretzel bun, but use any slider bun you love.
- For the toppings: Use any burger toppings you love, such as lettuce, tomato, red onion, slaw, etc.
- "Supersize" these: If you want these burgers to be full-size, use full-size buns and double the burger size.
Nutrition Considerations
- To make these gluten free: Use gluten free slider buns. Be sure all ingredients you choose are gluten free.
- To make these dairy free: Skip the cheese or use a slice of dairy free cheese.
- To make these nut free: This recipe does not contain nuts. Be sure all ingredients you choose are nut free.
- To make these egg free: This recipe does not contain eggs.
