Crisp and refreshing blackberry mojitos with plenty of fresh blackberries, mint and lime with rum, simple syrup and seltzer water.
The perfect cocktail for a hot summer day!
How to make blackberry mojitos
Ingredients Needed
- Sugar. To keep things easy and quick, I used granulated sugar and muddled it in with the limes, mint and blackberries.
- But traditionally, mojitos are made with simple syrup (equal parts water and sugar heated until dissolved).
- You can absolutely use simple syrup if you have some on hand or want to make some before cocktailing.
- Limes. Get extra, for garnish and just in case you want more lime.
- Mint. Grab a fresh bunch or one of those little containers at the grocery store is plenty!
- Blackberries. Grab a pint and eat whatever you don't use in the cocktails.
- White rum. Something like Bacardi will work here.
- Soda water. Or lemon lime soda.
Equipment Needed
- 4 cocktail glasses.
- A cocktail muddler, wooden spoon or fork.
- A shot glass and/or measuring cups and spoons.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Distribute the sugar, lime wedges into 4 tall cocktail glasses.
- Distribute half of the mint leaves into each glass.
- Drop a few blackberries into each glass.
- Use a cocktail muddler to smash the lime wedges, mint and blackberries.
- Fill each glass with ice, then pour 2 ounces of rum into each glass.
- Top off with seltzer or lemon lime soda.
- Serve immediately.
To make a blackberry mojito for one person:
- Follow the same instructions, but cut the ingredients in quarters.
- That means you'll use about ½ tablespoon sugar, ½ lime, a few tablespoons of mint leaves, ¼ cup blackberries, 2 ounces of white rum and enough soda water or lemon lime soda to top it off.
- Enjoy!
Recipe Substitutions & Alterations
- Sugar: Try it with simple syrup. You can also add less or more sugar depending on how sweet you like your cocktail and what type of soda you use (some may be sweetened, some may not).
- Blackberries: You can use strawberries, blueberries, raspberries (or a mix), mango, peaches or pineapple. Even pitted sweet cherries would be delish.
- White rum: Is traditionally used in mojitos, but if you want to go for a spiced rum, you could try it!
- Soda water: Or seltzer water or lemon lime soda (like 7up or Sprite).
Do you need a cocktail muddler and shot glass?
No! If you don't have a cocktail muddler, you can use the back of a fork or the handle of a wooden spoon.
If you don't have a shot glass, use a liquid measuring cup.
